Today, I will explain the symptoms that occur when the wiper height is high during head cleaning.
I. Problem _Symptoms when the wiper height is incorrect

Other operations are fine, but the same problem is repeated in the Cleaning operation, and the following message window appears.
“The collision switch has been triggered. Please check the print platform for troubleshooting and then click OK to reset!”
To put it more simply, in our terms:
- The head collision prevention switch has been activated.
- To resolve the issue, check if the material on the plate is pressing the head collision prevention switch.
- Remove the material, check that the head collision prevention switch is back down (making it inactive), and
- if all is well, press the [Confirm] button to reset the device.
II. Cause of the problem _Symptoms when the wiper height is incorrect
1. Head cleaning operating principle _Symptoms when the wiper height is incorrect
To explain the cause of the problem, it is necessary to first explain what action the head cleaning takes when the cleaning button is pressed.
For the head cleaning button, refer to page 18 of the ARTJET user manual.
- When you press the Clean button, the captop rises, sealing the print head.
- The peristaltic pump motor rotates twice (once briefly, then once longer) to extract ink from the print head.
- The extracted ink remains on the captop, and as the captop descends, the seal between the print head and the captop is broken.
- The pump motor then rotates again, sending any remaining ink on the captop to the waste ink tank.
- Because ink has been forcibly extracted from the print head, the print head surface is dirty with ink.
- The wiper then operates to wipe the dirty ink off the print head surface.
- The print head carriage moves back and forth, briefly stopping at the wiper position for each print head. The wiper then moves forward and backward, wiping the print head.
- Once the wiper operation is complete, the print head carriage moves to the left on the X-axis and spits (injecting ink only from the nozzle to improve jetting).
- Once this operation is complete, the head carriage moves to the X-axis origin, and the captop rises, sealing the print head and completing the cleaning process.
This issue was caused by the hard silicone wiper. The wipers currently on sale are softer and less likely to cause the same problem.
2. Cause of the problem _Symptoms when the wiper height is incorrect
To clean the head surface, the wiper moves forward and then back again to its original position.
During this process, if the wiper is too high, it vigorously scrapes the entire underside of the print head carriage, causing a load.
The load prevents the wiper from returning to its original position and causes it to stop in an unexpected location.
In this state, the print head carriage moves sideways for the next operation,
and the high wiper raises the head collision prevention switch located under the head carriage.
Since the head collision prevention switch has been activated, the head carriage stops in place (location in the photo below).
After the head carriage moves to the left end, it should spit (eject ink only from the nozzle to improve jetting quality). However, the X-axis movement command is immediately applied, stopping at this location.

Then, as shown in the image below,
the color spit occurs on the flatbed, and the white spit occurs slightly off the flatbed.
3. Solve _Symptoms when the wiper height is incorrect
For older versions, remove the wiper, cut it to the appropriate height, and then reassemble it, as shown below.
The new black version is unlikely to have the same issue.
