ARTJET UV Printer Troubleshooting Mechanical 4 _ The Importance of Head Height in Bidirectional Printing
I. Problem
1. Print mode
- Head carriage speed: FAST, in GUI it is called scan speed, if Scan speed is Fast, Feed speed is also FAST. In other words, Scan and Feed must be the same value. 이에 대한 더 자세한 내용은 ARTJET user 매뉴얼 24page 참조!!
- Print direction: Double direction (bidirectional printing)
- G mask : Quality mode
- front print, i.e. color printing on white.
2. Problem: Printed Image looks rough
When printed on PET film, the image is not too rough, but when printed on acrylic alone, the image looks rough. I thought it was due to the difference in surface tension between PET film and acrylic, so I printed on the front side (color printing on white) instead of the back side, but the image looks rough the same.
II. Troubleshooting
1. Some Assumptions and Tests
Doubt 1. Is the dot drop different when printed on the back?
When selling the old large UV Printer, I remember that the image roughness was different when printing color while printing white first on the front and when printing color first while printing white when printing on the back of transparent material, so I tested it, but the image quality was the same.
Doubt 2. Is it because the surface tension of acrylic and PET film is different, and the white spread is not even?
If I print the white thinly, wouldn’t the uneven surface of the white become even and the image quality improve? I printed it by adjusting the white density, but the image quality is the same.
Doubt 3. Is it because of the height deviation of the acrylic?
Acrylic is 1.55t, some places are 1.51t, some places are 1.58t.. There is a difference of about 0.1mm, but the image quality is the same overall.
Doubt 4. Is it because the height is too high? Should I lower it a bit or raise it a bit more?
1.5t material, so I entered the Z-axis height as 1.5, but lowered it by 0.1mm and set it to 1.4, then increased it by 0.1mm and set it to 1.6, then TEST
Usually, when the head height is reduced, the image quality tends to improve, but that wasn’t the case, and
as expected, even when the print head height was increased,
the image quality was the same.

‘Why is it like this??? It looks good on PET film,,, but why does the image become rough when I print it on acrylic???’
When I looked closely at the images printed at different heights of 1.4mm, 1.5mm, and 1.6mm with a magnifying glass, the edges of the letters were slightly different.
Oddly enough, the higher the height, that is, at a height of 1.6mm, the edge of the letters was sharper,
Just in case, I printed at 1.7mm with the print head height, and the edges of the letters improved even more,
And when I printed at 1.8mm, the image quality improved as shown below.
2. Bi directional printing offset value, that must be checked time to time.
A. Basic print mode and the importance of head height
head carriage speed: Normal. This is our recommended mode, and the print in the photo above was made using the fastest FAST mode for head carriage speed.
The faster the print head carriage speed, the more likely it is that the ink will fall off the print point. This phenomenon is especially severe when the head height changes or the flatness of the platen is different.

B. Bidirectional printing is very sensitive to ink jetting conditions compared to unidirectional printing.
If the ambient temperature is different, the ink temperature is different, and if the ink temperature is different, the ink viscosity is different.
Since ink with different viscosity is jetted by piezo,
the straightness of the ink drop and the speed of the ink drop may be different due to the different viscosity.
In this way, when printing in bi directions, we recommend checking the bi direction offset setting value for the corresponding material before proceeding with the work.
If the horizontality of the entire flat section is not good, the roughness of the image in each section may differ, so you should proceed with the work knowing this in advance.
However, this does not mean that the 4font text will be blurred.
