Today, I will explain about “ARTJET UV Printer Consumer Issues and Solutions 6 – Paper that absorbs ink”.
I. Problem symptoms
1. Customer information
This is the equipment installed in the Hongik University Sejong Campus Industry-Academic Cooperation Group in June.
The elevator size was not fit, so the X-axis was turned, and the equipment was installed using a stair step.
2. Problem
“Hello, Team Leader! Have you seen the KakaoTalk photo?”
“Just a moment.”
Sometimes I miss KakaoTalk messages when I’m doing other things.
“One of the students is printing, but the white text isn’t clear.”
“Just a moment. Let me see the photo. Is the material you used paper?”
“Yes, it’s paper. If you print in color and then print the white text, it’s clear, but if you print the white text first, the text is blurry.”
II. Troubleshooting
1. Single return, not single leave
“Researcher, are you using single leave right now?”
“Yes, I’m using single leave right now.”
“Then, try single return first. It’ll improve a little.”
“Yes, I understand.”
2. Print the Varnish spot as well as the White letters.
“If it doesn’t improve with single return, please catch the Varnish spot the same way as the white spot and print it together.”
“Okay.”
“If it doesn’t improve, don’t suppress it in the Varnish spot option, but give it a little more blur. Then it’ll be fine.”
“Okay, I understand.”
III. Cause of the problem
1. Paper that absorbs ink and Single leave printing
For large equipment, there is almost always one LED lamp on each side of the head carriage.
Since small UV printers focus more on print quality than print speed,
just as Roland LED Printers use lamps on one side instead of both sides, our ARTJET also uses LED lamps on only one side.
Single leave print option
When viewed from the front, the ink is fired when the head carriage moves from right to left along the X-axis, and when the head carriage returns, the ink is not fired, but the ink that was fired just before is cured by the LED.
There is a slight delay before the LED light hits the fired ink, and during that short time, the ink has water-like properties and will spread on the material.
Depending on the surface tension of the material, it may spread less or more, and the color will also change depending on the degree of spreading. In materials that spread well or the longer the spreading time, the darker the color is expressed, but if it spreads too much, the sharpness of the letters will decrease.
As for paper that absorbs ink like now, as soon as the ink falls, it is absorbed into the material,
* Sharpness also decreases,
* Color density is also not expressed properly because the sprayed ink is absorbed into the paper.
Single return print option
When viewed from the front, the head carriage moves from left to right along the X-axis, firing ink and curing the ink immediately with the LED lamp attached next to it.
Since the ink is cured with LED light as it is fired, the ink spreading time is shorter compared to single leave printing option.
Since the fired ink is cured immediately by the LED light,
the ink does not have time to spread, so the sharpness is good,
but since the ink does not spread, the color density is low.
When printing on paper that absorbs ink like now, the sharpness can be higher than when printing on single return than on single leave.
However, if the material itself absorbs ink too quickly, this will not have much effect.
Double Direction has an effect somewhere between Single leave and Single return.
2. Why I recommend Varnish spot
“Yes, it’s paper. If we print color first and then print white letters, it’s clear, but if you print white first, the letters are blurry.”
Here is the answer.
First, print the varnish that is not visible on the material that absorbs the ink.
Then, the white that falls off is printed on the transparent varnish, not the paper that absorbs the ink.
Then, the letters are printed clearly because the white ink is not absorbed by the paper.
