Roland UV Printer Summary
I. Roland UV Printer Summary
1. 3 flagship models _Roland UV Printer Summary

Most Japanese companies do not make major changes when launching new models.
There are three major models of Roland UV flatbed models, and the first model name is the same, LEF2, and the model features are distinguished by the numbers that follow.
- LEF2-200
- LEF2-300
- LEF2-300D
There are two major differences between LEF2-200 and LEF2-300.
- The 200 has a print size of 508 x 330mm and the 300 has a print size of 770 x 330mm.
- They both use Epson DX4 print heads, but the 200 has 3 print head and the 300 has 4 print head to increase production speed.
The difference between LEF2-300 and LEF2-300D is only one.
- The 300 has a head height of 100mm and the 300D can be adjusted to 200mm.
2. Product Add-ons _Roland UV Printer Summary
Primer
Primer is available in optional colors, but this does not mean that Primer enhances adhesion to all materials. The brochure indicates that it enhances adhesion to acrylic and plastic, so direct testing is required for metal and glass.
White circulation
When we say white circulation device, many people think that it means circulation within the head, but
Almost all print heads that circulate within the head are industrial, and even in industrial use, it is limited to high-speed single-pass heads.
I think it is correct to think of it as maintaining flow within the ink tube, before the damper in the main ink bottle.
Nozzle Compensation SW
This is a software technique that prevents banding due to line slippage by replacing the nozzle with another nozzle when a specific nozzle is clogged.
However, since it is written to skip the pass and use it, it seems that the speed will decrease when using this function.
If a clogged nozzle occurs, it is not easy to completely hide it when actually printing solid color, no matter how much you cover it with software.
There are a few other features, but they don’t seem to have much significance as they are features that other printers have as well.
II. Print speed and quality _Roland UV Printer Summary
1. Print speed _Roland UV Printer Summary
There are two modes: normal mode and high quality.
Since the actual applied items are items that are seen up close, most people use the high quality mode.
I will explain the speed as 1.39 sqm/hr in the table above.
sqm is an abbreviation for Square Meter, meaning 1 square meter.
hr is hour, or time.
In short, even though the horizontal printing size is not 1000mm but 508 or 770mm,
“When printing 1 meter by 1 meter squares, 1.39 square meters can be printed in 1 hour.”
According to a story from someone who uses 7 Roland machines,
- The productivity is slow, so the printing unit price of the cell phone case is not right, and instead, it should be sold as a finished product by applying laser cutting and bonding after printing to get the right unit price.
2. Print Quality _Roland UV Printer Summary
Looking at the actual print, the dot multiplication seems pretty good.
III. Price _Roland UV Printer Summary
1. Printer price _Roland UV Printer Summary
If you look at the US Roland site, the small size LEF2-200 is 3,000 million won, and the top size LEF2-300D is 40 million won.
In Europe, the small model LEF2-200 is cheaper than in the US at 2,500 million won, but the large size LEF2-300D is up to 4,700 million won.
In Korea, it seems that people mainly buy the top size, and I understand that the LEF2-300D is sold for around 50 million won.
The fact that it is Japanese equipment, and the Roland brand.
It seems that people who have used the same equipment before are buying this one.
- The biggest reason for buying this equipment is that they are worried that the final product will be different from the color that was delivered before. Also, the ink functionality,,.
Those who are new to UV printers and have financial resources in their company also seem to prefer this equipment.
- They are those who prioritize stability, but I wonder if they actually look closely at various equipment and choose.
When purchasing a UV printer, the equipment is important, but you should also consider the ink price, that is, the production cost.
In this regard, I do not recommend choosing a Roland UV Printer if it is your first time using a UV printer.
2. Ink price _Roland UV Printer Summary
Of course, consumers who purchase tens of millions of won per month are aware that they can negotiate up to 90,000 won.
If you convert 200 ml to 1 liter, it is 600,000 to 650,000 won.
Roland’s ink price is about 3 times higher than that of other equipment.
If UV ink price, or production cost, is important to your business, I think other equipment would be better than Roland UV Printer.
IV. Trend _Roland UV Printer Summary
1. Past and Present _Roland UV Printer Summary
Chinese small UV printers began to be sold in Korea in 2017, and those who used Chinese equipment at that time suffered from various problems.
However, in 2019, as equipment and ink stabilized, sales of Chinese UV printers began to increase.
Until 2017, the competition structure was “Japanese products VS Korean products”,
but in 2019, Korean UV printer manufacturers also began to outsource Chinese UV printers,
and although there are still Korean-made UV printers, the current sales trend shows that the competition structure is “Japanese products VS Chinese products”.
However, this does not mean that all Chinese printers are stable. Korean products are good everywhere, and they are not everywhere, and China is the same.
Product quality varies depending on the manufacturer, and even within the same manufacturer, some models are particularly good, and some models are not.
2. Still Japanese products? _Roland UV Printer Summary
Some people insist on Japanese products because of the color they have previously used or because they are familiar with the equipment,
and some people insist on Japanese products because they have experienced Chinese products once or heard from someone who has, and have a prejudice that “Chinese products are not good!!”.
The choice is theirs,
and when you look at companies that have grown suddenly in the past few years, those who have chosen Chinese UV printers seem to be relatively more than those who insist on Japanese products.
Since they can implement similar printing quality with Chinese products, they seem to have expanded the market by making the products more competitive in price with cheaper printer prices and competitive ink prices.
3. In future _Roland UV Printer Summary
It is unlikely that the trend will change significantly because the market does not share information well with each other, but won’t Korean UV printer manufacturers have a harder time? I expect it.
With the disappearance of Korean manufacturing, I expect the structure to be Japanese products VS Chinese products,
and if a groundbreaking print head suitable for small UV printers comes out on the market,
Chinese manufacturers, who are faster than Japanese, will come out with printers equipped with that head first, and if that happens, won’t Chinese products expand once again? I expect it.
4. Addendum _Roland UV Printer Summary
The prices listed above are based on past research and may differ from current prices.
This was written based on interviews with two fairly large companies. One company mainly produces cell phone cases and uses Korean equipment and Mimaki.
The second company uses Roland a lot and its main products are acrylic goods.

V. This is how Artjet supports our customers.
One thing I feel while selling and maintaining ARTJET UV Printers for 5 years is that the next most important thing after product stability is Troubleshooting DATA.
All products have problems, whether they are actual equipment problems or consumer errors, and product stability is how easily and quickly you solve those problems.
Since words alone are not convincing, we are organizing all the troubleshooting DATA as follows,
and sharing the Daily nozzle test through ARTJET demo equipment.
