I’m summarizing UV printer problems and solutions.

Now, I’m organizing the problems and symptoms related to UV Printer heads.

Before dealing with the actual problems and solutions, there are many misconceptions about heads, so I’ll explain the basic knowledge first.

If you understand only the sessions explained here, you will be able to see that you know more about inkjet heads than inkjet manufacturer salespeople or equipment distributor engineers.

Print head alcohol cleaning

Today I will tell you whether the XP600 Epson head can be saved by cleaning it with alcohol.

I think you can think of the Epson series heads in a similar way.

I. 17 used heads 1 year old alcohol cleaning _Print head alcohol cleaning

The print head was replaced at the consumer site.
It was a head used for color, and some channels were still alive, so I couldn’t throw it away thinking I could use it as a white head on my demo machine. so I kept it for a year.

I set a date and cleaned the print head with alcohol.
I filled a syringe with alcohol and pushed it into the print head inlet to clean the print head nozzle.
At first, the nozzle was clogged, so the syringe went in tightly, but when I applied more force, alcohol came out of all the nozzles without clogging.

II. Test Results _Print head alcohol cleaning

A total of 17 XP600 print heads were pushed with alcohol to clean the nozzles and check if alcohol comes out normally through the nozzles.
After installing the print head and damper, check if the ink load (pumping) is operating normally.
After the print head cleaning, proceed with the nozzle pattern test.

Out of a total of 17 print heads, only 3 had normal nozzle patterns, and the remaining 14 did not have nozzle patterns at all.

 

2. Print Test _Print head alcohol cleaning

I printed with 3 heads that had normal nozzle patterns.

• Two of them didn’t print ink during printing,
• and the last one printed normally twice, but didn’t print ink on the third printing.

III. Conclusion _Print head alcohol cleaning

When I separated the head, I saw 6 pipes, and when I looked at it with my eyes, the pipes looked weak.

When I pushed it with alcohol, it seemed like the pipes burst, and the ink did not flow properly because the pipes burst, which caused this problem.

We do not recommend cleaning the XP600 (FA1080-a1) print head with alcohol, as this can damage the print head.

If you have to do it, you must do it very slowly when pushing the alcohol with a syringe.

And one of the most important things is that we used IPA 99%, and if the alcohol and ink are mixed for a long time, the ink inside will harden.

After cleaning with alcohol, you must push out the alcohol inside the print head with ink within 10 minutes to prevent the print head from clogging.

Industrial print heads from Konica, Ricoh, and Dimatix can be used normally by 70-80% with alcohol cleaning,

but it seems almost impossible for the XP600 (FA1080-a1) head.

I am not sure because I did not do it for other heads from the Epson series, but I infer that there are multiple channels in one head and the pipes have problems with the pipes bursting due to alcohol cleaning.
