I’m organizing the head problems and symptoms, and I’ve organized the basic knowledge about the head and resolution into about 10 articles.

If you just understand the following, you can have knowledge at the level of a manufacturer’s salesperson or a dealer engineer.

Basic knowledge of print heads

 

Starting today, I will explain the problem of Y-axis banding as the first time to solve the head problem.

 

I. Problem Symptoms _Head problem Y-axis banding

1. Symptoms that appear when the white concentration is 70% _Head problem Y-axis banding

Below is a photo of White printed with the XP600 print head.

Cleaning is done well, and the nozzle pattern is also done well, but when printing is done, something like a banding is visible on the Y-axis, not the X-axis.

2. Symptoms that appear when the white concentration is 100%

I thought, ‘Isn’t it a problem that the white density looks low?’ and tried printing with the white density raised to 100%.

At first, it came out normally, but after printing 4cm, the white gradually stopped coming out.

After printing 8cm, it didn’t come out at all.

II. Troubleshooting _Head problem Y-axis banding

Pumping works well, cleaning works well, and when I do a nozzle test, the results also work well.

1. Carriage board replacement _Head problem Y-axis banding

I thought it was a data related problem.

I thought it was one of the three: Carriage board on top of the head carriage + DATA cable connected to the head + Print head itself,

I replaced the electronic board first, but the problem was not solved.

2. DATA cable check _Head problem Y-axis banding

When I pulled the DATA cable out of the head, it was contaminated with ink as shown below.

First, I washed the head cable connection area with alcohol and dried it thoroughly,

and then I replaced only the new data cable and proceeded with printing, but no DATA comes out at all.

3. Replace the head and DATA cable _Head problem Y-axis banding

 

The problem was solved by replacing the previously used DATA cable with a new one and the head with a new one.

• If ink gets into the DATA cable connected to the head and gets contaminated, the problem will not be solved by simply replacing the cable.
• After disconnecting the DATA cable and checking the head connection area, I confirmed that it was partially burned.
• In other words, ink that got into the cable connection area will burn both the DATA cable and the head, damaging them.

If vertical banding or printouts occur during white printing, it may be faster to replace the print head and DATA cable first rather than replacing the electronic board to solve the problem.
