I’m summarizing UV printer problems and solutions.

The link below is a compilation of all the problems and causes and solutions that occurred over the past 5 years, totaling 24 episodes. If you have a printer that uses the damper method, you can solve most problems by just clicking the link below.

Now, I’m organizing the problems and symptoms related to UV Printer heads.

Before dealing with the actual problems and solutions, there are many misconceptions about heads, so I’ll explain the basic knowledge first.

If you understand only the sessions explained here, you will be able to see that you know more about inkjet heads than inkjet manufacturer salespeople or equipment distributor engineers.

Head Basics Summary

 

Last time, I explained why the following problem occurred.

6. “I haven’t used it for a month, but the white color doesn’t come out. Is it possible to recover it?”

 

Today, I will explain the problem of printing but the colors are strange.

I. Problem Symptoms _The color is weird

1. Nozzle Test _The color is weird

When printing the ARTJET Test image, the colors were not expressed properly.
At first glance, the CMYK Lc Lm nozzle pattern was printed, and there seemed to be no missing nozzles, but when printing only the image file, the colors came out strangely.

However, when I looked closely at the nozzle pattern,

• all the small nozzles in Lc color came out,
• but unlike Lm and Yellow, the thick bars did not come out.

For reference, a little black was mixed in with the yellow, but this is because the black under the print head naturally falls out during printing, and it is printed as pure yellow.

2. Lc VS Lm Comparison Test_The color is weird

Although Lc was not normal during printing, it seemed to be printing,

In order to accurately identify the symptom, only Lc which isn’t come out Bar was printed,

In the software, CMYK Lm was turned OFF, and only Lc channel was changed to ON.

After that, to compare with the normally printed image, only Lm was printed with the software turned on “On”.

If you look at the engraved text in the photo below,

• Lc color did not express the engraved text properly.
• It was printed, but the data was expressed strangely,
• and you can see the difference when comparing it with the engraved text expressed as Lm.

 

II. Causes of problems and solutions _The color is weird

1. DATA Cable or Print head? _The color is weird

First, I unplugged and reconnected the Print head DATA cable on the top of the board. But that didn’t solve the problem.

I visually inspected the DATA cable connection on the bottom of the Print head, but it was clean without any ink contamination,

and ultimately, it was the Print head’s lifespan that had been used for over a year.

2. Color head and Varnish head interchangeable _The color is weird

Since only one channel of the head 6 channels, Lm, was problematic, I thought it would be a waste of money to replace the head with a new one.

I checked the condition of the Varnish head nozzle and it was normal, so I exchanged the Varnish head and the Color head.

And, when I printed only the light cyan separately, it was normal!!

3.Actions after head replacement _The color is weird

What to do after replacing the head _ Removing the existing ink inside the head

• There is still ink remaining inside the color head and varnish head.
• After replacing the head and installing it, if you connect the damper,
• you must remove the existing ink remaining in the head through inkload (pumping, ink fill).
• If the ink comes out of the waste ink tank and 10~15 seconds have passed, you can assume that the existing ink inside the head has been removed.
• And then, proceed with cleaning.

 

What to do after replacing the head _Check Offset  

• The head mounting part is made of blocks, so most of the alignment is correct, but check the vertical state of the head by printing “Align”.
• After that, adjust each channel offset by referring to the following. After adjusting the vertical and horizontal directions, check in both directions.

What to do after replacing the head _Setting up a channel

• Some people get confused about where the damper is inserted after replacing the head.
• Before replacing, you must take a picture of the damper inserted into the head.
• If the order of the dampers is wrong, the entire color will be wrong.
• That is, if yellow data is sent to channel 4, and Light Cyan Damper is inserted in channel 4, Yellow DATA will be printed as Light Cyan.

And the color print head that went to the Varnish position was locked to Off only for the problematic channel (Lc) in the software program and printing was carried out. 

III. Additional explanation _The color is weird

1. Reason for exchanging print heads _The color is weird

ARTJET uses 3 XP600(fA1080-a1) print heads.

There are 6 channels per head, and you can connect different color inks to each channel.

• The first head has 6 channels, C, M, Y, K, Lc, Lm, and each of them has different inks connected.
• The second head has 6 channels, W W W W W W, that is, all channels have White connected.
• The third head has 6 channels, V V V V V, and all channels have Varnish connected, like white.

 

The reason why I moved the Color head to Varnish and the Varnish head to Color is that,

• Even if there is a problem with only one channel of Color, it will affect the printed color,
• But White and Varnish have enough density to use 6 channels, so there is no problem even if you lock one channel in the software and use only 5 channels.

If there is a problem with the Color head, swap it with White or Varnish and use it until it is used up to the maximum before changing it. This will reduce the cost of replacing the head.

When touching the head, head cable, or electronic board, always turn off the main power.
