Up until last time, I have summarized 24 UV printer ink supply problems and solutions.

This is a summary of all the issues that occurred over the past 5 years. If you have a printer that uses the damper method, you can solve most problems by just looking at the link below.

After organizing the problems for 5 years, ‘No more new problems will occur!!’

But I solved a new problem yesterday.

 

 

I. Problem Symptoms _no clogged nozzles, but banding in the red

The reason I’m listing all the things I’ve tried is because this symptom could be a head aging issue, so you should definitely check the steps below before coming to a conclusion.  

1. Cleaning after pumping _no clogged nozzles, but banding in the red

When I only used magenta colors, strangely, a slight line appeared.

I hardly pumped the color (inkload), and I thought it would be okay if I pumped it, so I pumped it.

• I thought it was solved because it came out without any problem once,,,
• After repeating it two or three times, a line appeared again.

 

2. Channel Swap _no clogged nozzles, but banding in the red

I moved the Magenta channel to the Light Magenta channel, and the Light Magenta channel to the Magenta channel.

It’s been over a year since I installed the head, and I thought the problem was caused by the Magenta channel’s straightness deteriorating due to the head’s aging.

 

So, after swapping M and Lm,

• It was fine even after printing several times. I thought it was solved,,,
• After about 3 days, I tried again and the same problem occurred.

Please refer to the method of channel swap below.

Occasionally, if solid color banding occurs in a channel where 1~2 nozzles are blocked, this is a tip to properly print the color that is causing the banding by swapping that color with an unblocked nozzle.

The damper has two functions: stably supplying ink to the head and filtering.

‘Maybe it’s because the ink isn’t filtered properly?’

After replacing it, it was fine a few times,,, but the same problem occurred again.

1. In most cases like this, it’s the head,,, _no clogged nozzles, but banding in the red

If the nozzle is normal but banding is visible when printing solid color,

it is almost always a problem caused by a decrease in jetting straightness due to head aging.

2.’Oh, maybe it’s ink?’ _no clogged nozzles, but banding in the red

Up until now, if there was a problem with ink, [no jetting at all], [a significant number of nozzles fell out during printing]

Since the problems with slight lines and banding like now were mostly symptoms of head aging, I didn’t think it was an ink problem.

 

However, it kept sending signals that it was an ink problem, so I decided to replace the ink before replacing the head.

• It got better for a while when I cleaned it, but the same problem occurred after that (head or ink, I thought it was a head problem at that time).
• When I swapped the channel, it was okay for 1~2 days, but the same problem occurred again (Huh? It’s not the head?,, Is it because the damper is old?)
• Even after replacing the damper, the same problem occurred,,,(Or,, is the ink expired?)

For reference, the color ink expiration date is 12 months.

The ink was put in when the equipment was installed in May 2024, and although it was a demo equipment, I used it occasionally and replenished the ink occasionally.

However, when I put in the ink, I used the one with the shortest expiration date left,

It’s now July 2025, so the ink expiration date is probably about 2-4 months away.

Inkline ink bottle cleaning

I didn’t clean the ink line with alcohol

• After drawing out all the ink with a syringe,
• I cleaned the bottom with a head cleaning cloth
• Pour a little alcohol, and cleaned the bottom with a head cleaning cloth again,
• And added new ink
• Through Inkload, after the ink comes out of the waste ink tank, 15 seconds. Stop and repeat the same process 3~4 times.
• If you do inkload for too long at a time, it can put a strain on the head, so I did it in intervals.
