Today I will explain the issue where white is double printed only in the starting section along the Y-axis.

I. Problem symptoms _Double printing on the Y-axis on Start area

 

With a horizontal length of 600mm, as shown in the image above,

• at the start of the print, white is double-printed vertically, not horizontally.
• When moved away from the start, it prints correctly.
• Varnish, like white, is misaligned at the start, but when moved away from the start, it re-aligns.

This issue occurs only when printing in both directions.

After trying various things to resolve the issue, he called me and told me his suspicions.

“The scan speed is listed as FAST, but below it, it’s listed as slow. I don’t think it was like that the first time. Is this correct?”

• If these settings are incorrect, pressing the print button may result in no response (in which case, you’ll need to force quit the printer and restart the software).
• Or, the printer may print, but the head carriage may briefly stop at the end of the X-axis and then restart.
• Or, printing may suddenly stop.

 

Scan speed is the speed at which the head carriage moves along the X-axis.

• Fast moves the head carriage at approximately 1000 mm per second,
• Normal moves the head carriage at approximately 800 mm per second,
• and Slow moves the head carriage at approximately 400 mm per second.

Feed speed is the speed at which the flatbed moves along the Y-axis after the head carriage has moved once along the X-axis during printing.

While these speeds are not exact, they are expected to vary slightly between Fast, Normal, and Slow modes.

 

Scan speed (the speed at which the head carriage moves along the X-axis) and Feed speed (the speed at which the Y-axis flatbed moves) must be set to:

• If the Scan speed is Fast, the Feed speed must also be set to Fast.
• If the Scan speed is Normal, the Feed speed must also be set to Normal.
• If the Scan speed is Slow, the Feed speed must also be set to Slow.

 

Occasionally, when restarting the software, these settings may change, causing the above issue.

In this case, simply close the software and change both the Scan speed and Feed speed to Normal.

 

2. Why was only the starting section a problem? _Double printing on the Y-axis on Start area

Scan speed FAST: The head carriage moves quickly along the X-axis,
Feed speed SLOW: The flatbed moves slowly along the Y-axis.

The head carriage doesn’t start until the flatbed has fully moved, but rather begins printing as soon as it receives a signal from the Y-axis flatbed indicating “start.”

• The X-axis is printing,
• but the Y-axis is still moving.
• Double printing occurs on the moving flatbed at the start section,
• and as it moves away from the start section, the Y-axis movement is complete, so printing returns to the correct position.
• Double printing occurs only at the start section, in the Y-axis direction, i.e., in the direction of the flatbed’s movement.

Theoretically, the vertical offset in the opposite direction is incorrect.
However, when printing in both directions, it seems that the Y-axis flatbed moves earlier, recognizing it as a single movement rather than a signal, and thus the vertical offset is correct.
