I. Varnish, Glossy and Banding Minimum Conditions _Can varnish banding be reduced

1. Back when UV lamps were expensive _Can varnish banding be reduced

For industrial UV printers, the most expensive parts are the print head and UV lamp.

In the early days of UV printer development, only American and British products were used, and it was impossible to use a separate lamp for varnish due to price reasons.

Since it was used with one lamp, the varnish was cured by the lamp as soon as it fell, so it was expressed only in matte.

After that, the software technique was changed to print four times and cure once to give a glossy effect.

In other words, if you print only the varnish without curing, the varnish that fell on the material spreads because it is liquid, and if you cure it with the UV lamp at this time, it becomes glossy.

However, since the lamp cures once every four times, a band-like line is displayed at each section, this also had limitations.

2. Separate Varnish lamp _Can varnish banding be reduced

These days, Chinese UV printers are the trend, so you can assume that all parts except the print head and Rip software are produced in China.

The lamp price has also become much cheaper, and a separate varnish lamp has been adopted for small UV printers.

The previous 4-print and 1-cure software technique is no longer needed,

and banding can be minimized by changing the position of the varnish lamp.

 

3. Glossy Varnish Banding Minimum Requirements _Can varnish banding be reduced

UV Printers with separate varnish lamps, such as the ARTJET UV Printer, can minimize varnish banding by meeting the following conditions:

 

The lamp is in position 1, and the varnish concentration is 40%.

 

However, due to the change in the lamp angle(the lamp becomes larger when the lamp is angled 10 degrees outward), if used this way, the left cover must be separated due to lamp interference.

 

II. Test results _ Can varnish banding be reduced

 

1. Varnish concentration test when lamp is in position 3 _Can varnish banding be reduced   

When the lamp is in position 3, the time for the Varnish to spread after falling is minimized,

Compared to positions 1 and 2, the Varnish is not glossy but feels matte.

When exposed to light, the banding is minimized because it is matte, but the glossy feeling is greatly reduced.

 

 

2. Varnish concentration test when lamp is in position 2 _Can varnish banding be reduced

When the lamp is in position 2, it gives the Varnish time to spread after falling, so it feels glossy, but

According to the test results, the banding is expressed severely at 50% and 100% Varnish.

 

3. Varnish concentration test when lamp is in position 1 _Can varnish banding be reduced

When the lamp was in position 1, the banding disappeared a lot and the Grossy effect was the best.

 

 

4. Detailed testing of varnish concentration at lamp position 1 _Can varnish banding be reduced

I adjusted it in 10% increments from 10% to 100%, and 30-60% was a good value, and when I looked closely at it against the light, it seemed like the least banding was visible at 40%.
