Braille printing
Braille printing can be done by all UV printers, but not all UV printers can create the stacking height and convex feeling.
In the case of ARTJET, it has a great advantage over other printers in terms of Braille printing.
Let me explain how to print Braille with ARTJET.
I. Printing in Braille _Braille printing
The height of the dot should be around 0.5~0.7mm, and this ink height can be made with white or varnish.
The dot shown in the photo below was made with white and varnish, and color was also printed.
I will explain how it was printed.

1. Rip software _Braille printing
Use the Ai file with Braille as is.
Braille is black, ARTJET UV letters are yellow Ai file.

I didn’t create a separate Spot color layer in the Ai file,
and I used the “under solid” in the Spot color option of the Rip software to print White and Varnish.

2. ARTJET SW _Braille printing
Menu => spot color
Click Varnish mode at the top right corner (Light of mode),
Color channels 1~6 are used at 100%.
White channels 7~12 are 400%,
Varnish channels 13~18 are 400%.
At the very bottom, when printing 1 pass, White, Varnish density is set to 100%.

II. Creating Braille with White or Varnish Only_
Braille printing
1. Braille printing in white only
In ARTJET software, select “Print only White” from Menu => Spot color options,
Set White channel 7~12 to 800% as shown below.
Set white density at the bottom to 100%.

2. Braille printing with Varnish only
There is no option to print only Varnish separately in ARTJET software,
At the bottom, select color and white to close and lock them, and set it to print only Varnish.

And select Varnish (or Light of mode) as below.
Set Varnish channel 13~18 to 800%,
Set varnish concentration at the very bottom to 100%.

III. Description of optional items _Braille printing
1.Light of mode(With Varnish) meaning _Braille printing
One thing to emphasize is that this part is not an option related to the printing data.
As for the lamp option, the ARTJET has the Varnish head installed one block in front of the color head, and the Varnish lamp is also a bit further in front of the Varnish head, giving it a glossy effect.

ARTJET UV Printer print head carriage
If the print is finished right after the Varnish printing is finished, the Varnish that fell at the end will not dry because of the lamp position in the front.
Although it does not print, the print operation must be performed several more times to harden the Varnish that fell at the end.
Since this operation is possible only when this part is checked, you must click this check box when printing Varnish.
2. 100% ~800% Settings Window Meaning _Braille printing
This option is not about increasing the amount sprayed at once.
This option is about increasing the pass, that is, increasing the number of times the head carriage goes back and forth, thereby increasing the density.
- If you select the 100% option, the pass will be printed as the existing pass.
- If you select 200%, it will be pass x 2, so the print head carriage will go back and forth twice over the same section before moving on to the next pass.
- In other words, since the same section is printed twice, the density will double, but since the print head carriage has to go back and forth twice, the speed will be reduced by half compared to before.
- 800% will increase the density by going back and forth 8 times, but the printing speed will be reduced by 8 times.
3. Meaning of the 0~100% setting window at the very bottom _Braille printing
This option controls the amount sprayed when the head carriage passes once.
Since the pass is not increased, the printing speed is the same.
If the varnish density printed at once is too much, this is a window to set a specific density, such as 50%.
Since the thickness of the ink deposit is important for Braille printing, it should be set to 100%, which is the largest amount.
IV. Braille Printing Precautions
1. Calculating concentration values _Braille printing

Varnish Let’s take an example with Braille.
XP600(FA1080-a1) print head 6 channels, V V V V V V, all 6 use varnish.
0~100% option, 100% varnish concentration sprayed at once
100~800% option, 800%, that is, select 8 times to repeat the same section.
6ch x 100% x 800% = 6ch x 100% concentration x 8 round trips = Varnish concentration 4,800%
Compared to other printers with 1~2 varnishes, since it has 6 channels, the Braille height can be increased 3 times faster.
White is also explained in the same way.
2. Caution _Braille printing
The above description may vary depending on the following.
- When printed under the above conditions, the Braille height may not increase depending on the printer deviation. In this case, you can print several more times.
- The accumulated ink thickness may vary depending on the bidirectional conditions, the height of the flat plate, and the surrounding temperature.
- Since the LED lamp light accumulates and heats the material, materials that are sensitive to heat require LED lamp power adjustment, and in some cases, printing may not be possible.
- Since the ink accumulates and increases in height, it is recommended to increase the initial printing height by 0.2 to 0.3 mm. The higher the height, the more ink may fly around during printing.
- Even if only one file is used, the Braille file is formed convexly due to the ink cohesion. If this does not happen due to the deviation of the material, multiple Ai files may need to be used.
V. Braille printing Market

According to the Business Research Insights 2023 report, the market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 7.7% until 2031.
The main applications are mostly books and maps, and the application materials are divided into paper, plastic film substrates, rigid plastics, and others.
Since paper is the main material, it may seem irrelevant to those who use UV printers, but since UV printer applications are applied to special areas, we believe that market growth is an opportunity for us.
2. Where it is actually delivered _Braille printing
Most places that request Braille are government offices, and recently, even general companies are in the process of introducing Braille-printed signage.
3. Digital Printing and Braille Integration _Braille printing
The existing Braille was expressed by applying force to simple letters or logos on metal materials. In other words, the existing method was a signboard faithful to conveying information, and could only proceed if a minimum order quantity was secured. However, by implementing Braille with a UV printer, images can be inserted, and small-scale orders can also be processed.
