Are there many problems with China’s UV Printer?

 

I. Japanese VS Chinese products_Are there many problems with China’s UV Printer?

1. Japanese products also have problems _Are there many problems with China’s UV Printer?

I went to the company for after-sales service.

When the temperature gets warm or suddenly gets cold, sometimes the ink jetting conditions are not right. Black ink,  sometimes it flies and then it is fine,,,,
There is a heater where the head is mounted, and it was solved by controlling the temperature. (This product was a product that uses the Xaar1201 head.)

 

During the AS, the Japanese UV printer was still producing, and after acrylic printing, it was not stacked neatly,
Ink sides were covered with ink sides, and ink-free sides were covered with ink-free sides.
When I touched the white printing side, it felt very sticky.
They said that if the acrylic was overlapped as it was, the ink would transfer to the acrylic side that was not printed, so they covered it.

 

I thought, ‘If Chinese products had to work like that, wouldn’t it have been perceived as an ink problem and there would have been a lot of complaints?’

 

2. Japanese product speed and ink price _Are there many problems with China’s UV Printer?

Product stability is important, but the Japanese printer that the company is using only prints single reflections at a head carriage speed of about 500~600mm/second.
The price is twice that of Chinese products, but the production speed is almost the same. (Based on Xaar1201 head printer)
Of course, stability is important,,, but considering the price compared to productivity, Japanese products are too expensive.

The price of ink sold in 200ml is approximately 100,000~130,000 won.
Converted to 1,000ml, it is about 500,000~650,000 won, which is at least 3 times more expensive than other companies.

The ink is provided in two types: Rigid and Universal.
Rigid ink does not have stickiness issues and has strong scratch resistance.
Universal ink is also not overly sticky like the Japanese product mentioned above, so you don’t have to cover it.

Since various functions (unidirectional, bidirectional, G mask level adjustment, various DPI settings) are simply opened, the error rate seems to be higher than that of Japanese products.
However, it is a highly stable product if used within a set range like Japanese products.

The model in the photo below is a Roll to Roll UV Printer sold by Fujifillm Dimatix in Japan. It is a Chinese product that is sold under a different name. The Chinese manufacturer’s name is JHF.

 

US EFI company, Except for Roll To Roll UV printers, flatbed or small UV printers are OEM models supplied through Flora in China.

There are also several Korean manufacturers that use Chinese boards and software. (British boards are expensive, so they are only used for industrial inkjets.)

The reasons why some Korean manufacturers use Chinese boards are as follows.

• There are not many engineers in Korea who can design inkjet boards,
• And when a new head comes out, the cost of making a board sample for it is 120 million won, and the period is also 6 months.
• Considering software, it takes about a year, and when a new product is released, China has already completed the development of board software for another new head.

Sometimes, when you see Japanese new product brands at a showroom, they have a Chinese feel to them, and most of these products are models manufactured in China as OEMs.

 

In conclusion, except for a few companies or models, they use Chinese engines or are manufactured as Chinese OEMs.

 

2. Representatives who have worked really hard _Are there many problems with China’s UV Printer?

There are some people who use Chinese UV printers well, but there are also some who have a hard time because they can’t throw them away or sell them used due to equipment problems.

Some people may have purchased Chinese printers directly, and some may have purchased them through Korean sales companies.

Most equipment can be repaired if you have spare parts and employees with after-sales service capabilities.

However, you may have purchased them directly with the confidence that ‘what’s the big deal’, but you may have trouble with equipment problems, and the after-sales service from the sales company may not be very good.

Even though you trusted a Korean dealer and purchased the product, there are dealers who ‘don’t even understand what you’re talking about’ when you contact them about equipment problems.

If you suffer like this once, because the experience was so difficult, the idea that ‘Chinese products have many problems’ becomes ingrained in you.

People who have suffered like this often say, “Never buy Chinese products” because they feel so wronged or are worried about the people around them.

However, I have a few questions for them:

• When did you have that experience?
• Which Korean dealer did you purchase from? Did that company specialize in UV printers? Was the level of the engineers okay?
• Did you buy a large 4×8 size UV ​​printer or a small 0.6×0.9 UV printer?

 

III. More important than whether it’s a Chinese product or not _Are there many problems with China’s UV Printer?

1. Large and small UV printer stabilization period _Are there many problems with China’s UV Printer? 

The 4×8 size large UV printer has been stabilized since 2015 or 2017.
Many of those who purchased it before had some difficulties no matter how hard the dealer tried.
Those who purchased it after that are expected to have fewer product problems than expected.

The 0.6×0.9 small UV printer began to enter Korea in 2017,
and of course, there were various problems when it was first introduced, and the ink was not stabilized.
However, from 2019, word of mouth spread and sales began to increase.

 

2. Which company’s product among the Chinese products did you choose? _Are there many problems with China’s UV Printer?

There are many more printer manufacturers in China than in Korea,

• some manufacturers develop boards and software themselves to make products,
• some use the specialized companies’ boards and software,
• some simply sell manufactured products under their own brand like trading company.

If you choose the last trading company’s product for price reasons, it may end up being a problematic product because the after-sales support is not very active.

 

3.Among Chinese development manufacturers, _Are there many problems with China’s UV Printer?

There are companies that are strong in 4×8 size large UV printers, 3.2 meter or more Roll to Roll UV printers, and there are companies that specialize in 0.6×0.9 small UV printers.
If you purchase a small UV printer from a company that specializes in large products,
even if those companies have accumulated technology through large UV printers,
the time and effort invested in small models is less than that of small UV specialized manufacturers,
so the product stability is bound to be low.

 

4. The most important dealer’s technology level _Are there many problems with China’s UV Printer?

Most people in the metropolitan area say that Mimaki AS is not very active.

It’s not that Japanese equipment doesn’t have problems, but all equipment has problems, and how quickly problems are solved when they occur is also the stability of the equipment.

If the dealer’s engineer level is low, problems are not solved even if reported, and even if they are solved, if they are delayed, even small problems can become big problems.

For this reason, the engineer level of the dealer selling the equipment is important.

Also, is it a company that specializes in selling UV printers?
Has the model been released in Korea for a long time? Or is it a new product? In the case of new products, the initial seller inevitably becomes a beta test site.

 

5. Finally _Are there many problems with China’s UV Printer?

I am not saying that all Chinese products are good. Among the many Chinese manufacturers, there are good ones, and among those good manufacturers, there are also some that are okay and some that are not so good.

Rather than the criteria of whether it is a Chinese product or not, the more important criteria is whether the equipment sales company (distributor) is confident in selling it. The level of the engineer in charge is a more important criterion.
