I. Making a Print Zig _Ballpoint pen jig

1. Material loading time and printing time _Ballpoint pen jig

In order to optimize the printing time and material loading time, instead of printing the entire 600x 900,

We made two plates of 600×300 Ballpoint pen jig, one plate aligned with the Y-axis starting point, and the second plate aligned with the Y-axis 600mm starting point, and fixed them to the flatbed with double-sided tape.

• Load the ballpoint pen on the first Ballpoint pen jig, and start printing.
• During printing, load the ballpoint pen on the second Ballpoint pen jig.
• When the ballpoint pen printing on the first Ballpoint pen jig is finished, and the printing on the second Ballpoint pen jig starts, load the ballpoint pen on the first Ballpoint pen jig again.

That is, we loaded the ballpoint pen before the printing was finished, and printed again immediately after the printing was finished.

 

 

2. Printing continues without stopping _Ballpoint pen jig printing 

White, Color, and Varnish were printed simultaneously.

Since it was text, it was printed in a slightly faster printing mode, and the pure printing time was 27 minutes.

When printing 21 editions without any problems, it took 9.45 hours, which was about 10 hours.

Since there are many variables when printing, I set aside 40 minutes for each edition, so the working time was 14 hours.

I printed a few editions the day before for test printing, and I started working the next morning at 8:30, and finished at about 4:30 in the afternoon.

From 8:30 in the morning, I took a short break for lunch, and the printer kept running back and forth.

The client was satisfied with the printing quality, and it ended well.

 

3. Critical mistake _Ballpoint pen jig

Before starting printing, my coworker said,,

“Since the acrylic is transparent, it seems like UV light will be reflected badly,,,,wouldn’t it be better to make the acrylic completely black and proceed with the work?”

“How can I print black on the zig when the flatbed gets all dirty? I’ll just do boll point printing”

 

I said this, but in my heart,

‘If I print with a ballpoint pen, the head height is relatively high, and the light reflection rate is high due to the height difference in the area where there is no ballpoint pen,,,,,,’

 

The next day, I cleaned and checked the nozzle condition,,

If it was the existing equipment condition, the color would come out almost perfectly clean without cleaning,,, but one fixed nozzle was blocked, and 2~3 diagonal sprays..

 

Since I only printed small letters, Color all nozzle didn’t used, some nozzle was used for printing.

I think the nozzle was blocked by UV light reflecting repeatedly on the unused nozzle, or the ink at the end of the nozzle hole cured and created diagonal sprays.

 

White and Varnish were not a big problem as ink was jetted in all six channels during printing.

 

Don’t make the same mistake as me,

Always keep your head alert, and when printing on reflective materials (mirrors, glass, transparent materials) or at high heights, clean it regularly.
