Today, I will explain the problem of color printing strangely after applying Varnish spot.

 

 

I. “After varnishing the spot, the overall color changed.”_After applying Spot color, the color appears strange.

I started checking the AI ​​file.

 

A. Save only the Color Layer separately and then print.

• Delete the Spot 1 and Spot 2 layers from the AI ​​file and save.
• I printed in [Monochrome Mode], which automatically creates a white spot in Rip SW.
• Both the Color and White layers printed normally.

 

B. Save only the White and Varnish layers separately and then print.

• Delete the Color layer from the AI ​​file.
• Save only Spot 1 and Spot 2 separately and then print.
• Both the White and Varnish layers printed normally.
• In the photo below, you can see the Varnish layer printed over the White layer.

2. Cause of the problem _After applying Spot color, the color appears strange.

Printing only the color is normal.

Printing only the white varnish is also normal.

If I print only the color as spot 1 and spot 2, the colors are distorted.

 

I realized that when I select a white spot and uncheck [Color Overprint], only the white is printed, and the colors in the underlying color layer are not printed.

I wondered, “Could it be that [Color Overprint] is checked in the color layer, and it’s mixing with the Spot 1 and Spot 2 layers, resulting in a different color?”

I suspected this and selected the color layer separately, and found that [Color Overprint] was selected.

3. Problem solving _After applying Spot color, the color appears strange.   

With the Color layer selected, [Overprint Fill] was not selected.

The channel color preview in the Rip software was normal.

The printout was also normal.
