They asked if the colors could be matched to match the printed colors.

I printed with the default ICC profile and compared it to a sample printed with a Japanese product. Overall, the colors were weak.

Several factors contributing to similar color saturation are as follows:

  • Due to differences in ink density and color gamut, applying an ICC profile doesn’t guarantee the same color reproduction.
  • Ink droplet sizes vary depending on the print head, resulting in differences in resolution. The maximum colors that can be reproduced will inevitably vary depending on the resolution.

  • Third, the RIP software used differs. Image files are converted to a printable file format using RIP software. Different RIP software programs use different conversion methods and color reproduction methods.
  • Fourth, when printing color + white + color on acrylic with different transparencies, such as transparent acrylic, the image colors exposed by the ink will differ from those seen through the transparent acrylic. The reason why the color of the surface where the ink is exposed and the color seen through the acrylic are different is because “transparent acrylic” is not completely transparent as we think, and contains some color. The color seen through the subtle color of the acrylic contains that color, so the color difference depends on the transparency of the acrylic used.

The Evolution of Chinese UV Ink
Although UV printers have been manufactured in China since 2005, the company initially used Japanese Toyo ink. Japanese Toyo UV ink, when installed outdoors, discolored after nine months.

Afterwards, British Sunjet ink, known for its excellent stability and adhesion, held the top spot for over three years. However, its red ink color was weak,

and it subsequently ceded its top spot to Nazdar UV Ink from the US and Agfa UV Ink from Belgium.

Since then, UV inks manufactured in China have emerged, and today, almost all printers use Chinese inks.

Global ink companies have invested heavily in the Chinese market, and as a result, ink quality has improved. Chinese ink manufacturers were created to replace the inks of global ink companies.

The ink color and adhesion are therefore bound to be similar to those of global companies.

In other words, “Chinese inks are not weaker in color than those manufactured by Japanese, European, or American manufacturers.”

Resolution is ultimately determined by how small the ink droplets are.

Roland products use the Epson DX4 print head, while our products use the Epson FA1080-a1 print head.

The DX4 print head is 0.5 to 1.0 pico smaller than the FA1080-a1, but it has four colors, while the FA1080-a1 print head has six colors.

The quality difference resulting from the smaller pico can be compensated for by the additional colors Lc and Lm.

According to someone who has used both Mimaki and Roland products,

“The Roland print quality is better than the Mimaki, but it was too slow, so I switched from Roland to Mimaki.”

2. Color adjustment graph principle  _How to adjust colors in Sai Rip

The numbers on the bottom are the input color values, and the values ​​on the vertical axis are the actual print color values.
When nothing is adjusted, the 50% value on the bottom will meet the 50% output value on the vertical axis as you move upward.
In other words, if you leave the graph untouched, the input values ​​and ICC profile values ​​will be printed as is.

Now, let’s change the input from 5% to the output from 8%.

The graph changes to a parabolic curve, drawing a color balance based on the changed value, rather than just the input portion.

Except for 0% and 100%, the output values ​​for all colors are slightly higher than the input values.

While maintaining color distortion, the output value is higher than the input, resulting in an overall darker color.

Clicking the down arrow next to All allows you to select individual colors and adjust their value graphs separately.

The values ​​I found are: Changing the total input value to 95% and the output value to 97% will produce the desired black color.
However, adjusting the graph too much can change all the colors, so it’s important to find the right values.

If the purple is still weak despite adjusting the overall color in Black, adjust the graph for each color, not the entire color.
For a deep purple, I changed the 5% area in the Cyan graph to 8%, as shown below.
