Today,  I will explain the super easy canvas printing.

I. Some notes _Canvas UV printing

 

1. Frame work after canvas printing??_Canvas UV printing   

If you plan to print on canvas and then make a wooden frame yourself to complete the product, I do not recommend it.

The canvas itself is porous and is not fixed to the UV Printer flatbed by vacuum or fan.

You need to place the canvas on the UV flatbed and secure it with tape while pulling it tightly,
* Since you need to attach the tape to all four edges to print, it takes a lot of time.
* Even if you attach it all and print, there are times when the canvas bends in the middle due to UV heat during printing.

 

Printing is not easy, but when working with frames,
* When you pull the printed canvas tightly and secure it, some parts may be pulled too much and tight, and some parts may be pulled too lightly and cause image distortion,
* It is not easy to align the frame edges and the ends of the printing exactly.

 

2. Print on framed canvas _Canvas UV printing   

While it wasn’t available in the past, you can now purchase wooden framed canvas online.

After purchasing, make sure the wooden frame isn’t twisted.

If the wooden frame is twisted,

• some areas will float higher when placed on the UV printer’s flatbed, preventing the 1.2mm standoff required by the UV printer.
• If there are any raised areas, the entire top surface of the canvas will be printed, making it impossible to tape the top surface.
• The only option is to apply masking tape to the sides and then reattach the remaining area to the printer’s flatbed.

 

Where there is no wooden frame

• Even if the canvas is tensioned and secured to the wooden frame, when placed on the UV printer flatbed,
• the canvas will sag in areas without the wooden frame.
• Supporting the sagging area with a structure of the same height as the wooden frame will ensure a 1.2mm standoff during printing.

 

3. To print the frame edge part neatly _Canvas UV printing  

No matter how well you adjust the print size, the framed canvas size is not 100% identical.
The first time I printed it, I aligned it exactly to the canvas border, and the image fit perfectly within the borders.
The second time, I printed it exactly the same way, but it shifted to the right, leaving more white space.
The third time, I shifted it slightly to the left, but the image overflowed, and ink splattered messily next to the frame.

 

For most people who have experience working with framed canvases,
* Attach mask tape at regular intervals next to the canvas frame.
* Rip the image to be printed to a size slightly larger than the frame.
* Place a dummy of the same height next to the canvas frame to minimize ink spilling over the image.
* Remove the mask tape when printing is complete.

 

 

4. Tips on Color _Canvas UV printing

When printing on canvas, I feel like colors appear more vibrant.

• The canvas itself contains certain colors, which can make those colors appear more vibrant.
• The slightly glossy coating applied to the canvas also makes the colors appear more vibrant.
• When printing on canvas, colors are rendered more strongly even with the default ICC profile, which is comparable to the deep colors used on acrylic key ring.

 

II. Actual canvas print _Canvas UV printing

These days, cell phone cameras have gotten so good that I think the files are fine even when printed at 1:1 size.

I received the image file via KakaoTalk and ripped it to 1:1 size.

I first checked to make sure the frame wasn’t warped, and thankfully, it wasn’t.

The canvas was stretched tightly, so it maintained the same height even without the frame.

I made the print file about 3mm larger than the frame size.

I then applied masking tape to the side edges of the frame and proceeded with printing.

After printing, I removed the masking tape from the side edges.
