Today, I will explain the entire process of making UV DTF and its application.
I. Equipment required for UV DTF _From UVDTF printing to application
You can create UV DTF products with just three items:
- UV printer
- Temperature-controlled roll coater
- UV DTF film types A and B (film vendors provide compatible versions of both types)
I’ll explain the requirements for each.
1. UV Printer _From UVDTF printing to application
To print on UV DTF, white, color, and varnish must all be available.
Since printing on sticky transparent film (called UV DTF film type A), color expression is not achieved properly without white.
Color is printed on top of the white to create color expression,
and varnish must be printed on top of it to ensure proper transfer to the film (called UV DTF film type B) after heat coating.
The thicker the white and varnish, the more scratch-resistant they are.
The ink adheres directly to the object through the adhesive of Film A, much like an illegal parking sticker on a car.
If the ink is too thin, the adhesive will come off with a fingernail.
For this reason, white should be at least 300% thicker than the color.
The thicker the varnish, the better it resists scratches.
UV inks are better for hard inks than soft or medium inks.
Since ink characteristics vary depending on the printer used, I’ll be using ARTJET UV Ink as a guideline.
Medium or flexible inks are susceptible to fingernail scratches, so you should use hard ink for UV DTF.
2. Heat Coating Machine Conditions _From UVDTF printing to application
You should not use a sheet coating machine like the one below just because it is cheap.

No matter how well Film B is attached to printed Film A, the following problems occur during the coating process.

To avoid the issues described above, a roll coating machine is recommended.
Since temperature is also important, I recommend purchasing a reasonably priced thermal coating machine rather than a low-cost one with inaccurate temperatures.

3. UV DTF film A & B type _From UVDTF printing to application
UV DTF film is now widely available.
When purchasing UV DTF film from domestic or Chinese companies, there are a few things to keep in mind.
Since Film A and B are priced separately, we recommend purchasing Film A and Film B together from the same company. Instead of purchasing Film A from Company A and Film B from Company B separately, we recommend purchasing Film A and Film B together from the same company.
And you should also check the conditions for making UV DTF products with the UV DTF film seller.
- Which UV ink should I use, Rigid or medium, Soft?
- What is the appropriate white concentration?
- What is the appropriate varnish concentration?
- What is the appropriate heat coating temperature?
II. “How do you do UV DTF”_From UVDTF printing to application
1. From printing to UV DTF production _From UVDTF printing to application
Nowadays, there are UV DTF roll-only printers, so few companies use flatbed printers.
However, if you’re using a flatbed printer and want to try it out,
- Remove the protective film from Film A, which is already coated with adhesive, and place it on the UV printer’s print location.
- Printing proceeds as follows: White => Color => Varnish. This is not mirror printing; it’s simply full-face printing.
- Once printing is complete, the printed Film A is transferred to Film B via a thermal coater.
- This is the photo after thermal coating.

From UVDTF printing to application
- When you separate (remove) Film A and Film B, the image and adhesive printed on Film A will be transferred to Film B.
- Since the ink has transferred to Film B, nothing will remain on the sticky Film A where the print was made.
- Film B, with the image and adhesive attached, is positioned and attached to a surface, such as a glass.
- Rub the attached Film B firmly with your hand to ensure the ink attached to the adhesive adheres well to the glass.
- Then, gently remove Film B. The image and adhesive will remain on the glass, allowing the image to be displayed, and only Film B will be peeled off.

However, since it is a video made a long time ago, a sheet cutter was used instead of a roll coater.
If you use a roll coater, many processes become simpler.
