About a year ago, I had a really hard time with this problem, and the troubleshooting data I found that way is very useful.
There was no problem for two weeks after installing the equipment, but this symptom suddenly appeared, and after many twists and turns, I replaced the captop and thought it was solved,
Two weeks later, the same problem appeared, and after checking this and that, I replaced the captop and it was fine again. If I list the tasks I did at that time,,,
- Ink line, main bottle, everything was replaced twice
- Several dampers were replaced
- Captop was replaced
- Checked the position of the head and captop
- Printed numerous test images
- Replaced the print head
Even after replacing everything I could, the problem was not solved, so I almost gave up,,,
I remember feeling disheartened because it was solved so easily.
I. Problem Symptoms _UV Printer nozzle is normal, but a specific color is missing during printing

“Team leader, I sent you an image via KakaoTalk. Can you check what the problem is?”
“Just a moment. I’ll look at the image.”

The image above lets you know that ‘a certain color seems to be missing,,,’ but you can’t tell exactly which color is missing.
The image below will let you know which color is missing.
If you look at the crimson gradient inside the red border, it is expressed up to the middle, but not all the way.
- The dark part is the area where Magenta is printed,
- and the light part is the area where Light Magenta is printed.
In other words, Light Magenta is not printed, so the problem is that the entire color does not match.

3. Ink Supply Or Data Problem? _UV Printer nozzle is normal, but a specific color is missing during printing
“I need to check if it’s a DATA problem or an ink supply problem, so please do a Nozzle TEST.”

There are two reasons why a specific color is missing during printing.
- Is the ink not supplied properly and the ink is not coming out during printing?
- Is the nozzle test coming out, but is there an abnormality in the print head data?
First, I checked for a DATA abnormality.
- In the photo above, if the color bar in red does not come out,
- or if it does come out, it is thin, the corresponding channel does not come out during printing.
Although the nozzle test does not reveal all DATA problems, it can be used for initial confirmation.
Based on the results of the photo above, I concluded that it is not a DATA problem, i.e., a print head, data cable, or electronic board.

“I sent you a picture via KakaoTalk. What is the Capping height value?”
“It’s 6.”
“Change it to 5, press OK, press the x button on the right side of the box to exit, and try again.”
“How do I change 6 to 5? It doesn’t work,,”
“You can change the number by double-clicking on the number section.”
“Oh, yes, it works.”
And then, about 20 minutes later, I received a KakaoTalk message saying that the printing was completed normally.

If it’s 5, then 4.5 or 4, If it’s 4, then 3.5 or 3,
However, if you lower it too much, the print head and captop won’t be sealed, so the best way is to replace the captop with a new one.
2. “Why? Suddenly??” _UV Printer nozzle is normal, but a specific color is missing during printing
“if you look inside the captop, isn’t it colored with magenta?”
“Oh, that’s right. There’s a lot of red. I think it was originally black,,”

This symptom does not necessarily cause the same problem, but if a specific color is missing during printing and that color is visible a lot on the captop, there is a high probability that it is this problem.
The nozzle is normal, and the correct color is printed at the beginning of printing, but a specific color is missing in the middle of printing.
Or, the reason why ink suddenly disappears on the 3rd or 4th printing after printing normally for several times.
The reason why this symptom suddenly appears after a certain period of use after using it well.
It is because the rubber blade of the captop has become dull and has collapsed.
To explain in more detail,
- Epson series print heads perform ink loading (pumping) and cleaning through the captop, and are sealed when not in use to protect the head.
- The captop must be tightly pressed against the bottom of the print head to seal it, so that pumping and cleaning can function normally.
- The square frame of the captop is made of rubber to seal the bottom of the head and block air.
- As the capping station rises, the captop rubber gently contacts the print head with the spring force under the captop,
- and as the capping station rises a little more, the spring is pushed a little more, so that the captop tightly presses the bottom of the head.
- The printer always maintains the capping state except for printing.
- In the capping state, physical force is continuously applied to the captop rubber blade,
- and the once firm captop rubber blade gradually becomes dull and sinks.
- As this happens, the print head nozzle surface touches the white cotton inside the captop rubber blade.
- As the nozzle touches the cotton, the ink inside the damper is continuously absorbed into the cotton.
- Then, the ink in the damper will naturally flow downward, and the damper will be empty of ink.
If you clean the print head in this state,
the remaining ink in the damper will enter the print head, and the Nozzle TEST will be normal,
but since there is not enough ink in the damper, the color will not come out at the beginning or middle of printing.
To prevent this problem, you should replace the consumable Captop periodically.
Of course, you can reduce the physical force applied to the Captop rubber blade by adjusting the height of the capping station,
but since adjusting the height of the capping station can affect other colors and cleaning, it is better to replace the Captop first.
