We’ve compiled a list of products that can be made with a UV printer.
Today, I’ll address a question that many people are concerned about: “Are Chinese products any good?”
I. Are there many problems with Chinese UV printers? _Is the Chinese UV printer OK
1. There are almost no products that are not Chinese._Is the Chinese UV printer OK
The model pictured below is a roll-to-roll UV printer sold by Fujifillm Dimatix in Japan. It’s a Chinese-made product, sold under a different name. The Chinese manufacturer is JHF.

American EFI companies, excluding roll-to-roll UV printers,
also source their flatbed or small UV printers from a Chinese company called Flora.
Some Korean manufacturers also use Chinese boards and software. (British boards are expensive, so they are only used for industrial inkjets.)
The reasons some Korean manufacturers use Chinese boards are as follows:
- There aren’t many engineers in Korea capable of designing inkjet boards.
- Just producing a sample board for a new head costs 120 million won and takes more than six months.
- Including software, it takes about a year.
- When a new product is released, the board software for another new head has already been developed in China.
Sometimes, when you see a new Japanese brand at a showroom, you get a Chinese-made feel, and most of these products are manufactured under OEM in China.
In conclusion, with the exception of a few companies or models, most manufacturers use Chinese engines or are manufactured under OEM in China.
2. If you purchase Chinese products directly _Is the Chinese UV printer OK
While some people enjoy using Chinese UV printers, others struggle with equipment issues.
Some purchase Chinese printers directly, while others purchase them through Korean vendors.
- They struggle with equipment issues, and the Chinese vendor’s after-sales support is often inadequate.
- Even though they trusted the Korean dealer, when they contacted them about equipment issues, some dealers simply didn’t understand.
- These experiences were so painful that they became ingrained in their minds that “Chinese products are prone to problems.”
Those who have experienced these difficulties often tell others to “never buy Chinese products.” However, I’d like to ask them a few questions:
- When are you talking about your experience?
- Which Korean dealer did you purchase from? Did the company specialize in UV printers? Were the engineers competent?
- Was the product you purchased a large 4×8 size UV printer or a small 0.6 x 0.9 size UV printer?
Whether you purchased directly or through a Korean dealer, most equipment can be repaired as long as you have spare parts and after-sales service personnel.
However, if you purchase from a place that does not meet these two conditions, you will suffer as described above.
II. Important things to consider when purchasing _Is the Chinese UV printer OK
1. Stabilization period for large and small UV printers _Is the Chinese UV printer OK
The 4×8 size large UV printer became stable around 2015 or 2017.
Many customers who purchased it before experienced some difficulties, despite the best efforts of dealers.
Those who purchased it later don’t have many chronic equipment issues.
The 600x900mm small UV printer began arriving in Korea in 2017.
Naturally, there were several issues when it was first introduced, and the ink hadn’t yet stabilized.
However, as these issues were resolved, sales began to increase starting in 2019.
2. Even in China, it varies from company to company. _Is the Chinese UV printer OK
China has far more printer manufacturers than Korea.
- Some manufacturers develop their own boards and software,
- some hire specialized companies for boards and software and manufacture all other components in-house.
- And some simply specialize in trade, selling manufactured products under their own brand.
Of the three types of manufacturers, the most affordable are trade-only companies.
If you choose a product from a sales-only company, after-sales support is often limited.
- Due to low margins, they don’t invest heavily in after-sales service,
- and their after-sales staff often lack the expertise of manufacturer engineers.
3. Dealer’s technical level _Is the Chinese UV printer OK
Most people in the Seoul metropolitan area often complain that Mimaki’s after-sales service is lacking.
It’s not that Japanese equipment is free of problems; all equipment has issues. Equipment reliability is determined by how quickly problems are resolved.
If dealers have low-level engineers, reporting problems often leads to unresolved issues. Even if they are resolved, if the delay is significant, even minor issues can become major problems.
For this reason, the level of engineers at the dealer selling the equipment is crucial.
Also, is the company specializing in UV printers?
- Has the model been on the Korean market for a long time?
- Or is it a new product? For new products, early adopters inevitably become beta testers.
In the same vein,
- Some companies specialize in large-scale UV printers (4×8 sq. m) and roll-to-roll UV printers (3.2 m or longer), while others specialize in small-scale UV printers (600×900 mm).
- If you purchase a small-scale UV printer from a company specializing in large-scale products, even if they’ve accumulated technology through their large-scale UV printers,
- they’ll likely have less time and effort invested in a smaller model than those dedicated to small-scale UV printers, so product reliability will inevitably be lower.
- Furthermore, because there’s no accumulated after-sales service data, even simple issues can take time to resolve.
4. Finally_Is the Chinese UV printer OK
I’m not saying all Chinese products are good.
Among the numerous Chinese manufacturers, there are some good ones,
and even among those good ones, there are some decent ones, and some not so good ones.
Rather than simply determining whether a product is Chinese or not, the more important factor is whether the equipment seller (distributor) is confident in selling it, and the level of engineers behind it.
For your information, our UV printer supplier met Nicky, our vice president, in 2012 and has maintained a close relationship ever since.
I’ve included a short video clip from my previous visit to the company. Please refer to it.
III. This is how ARTJET supports our customers.
One thing I feel while selling and maintaining ARTJET UV Printers for 5 years is that the next most important thing after product stability is Troubleshooting DATA.
All products have problems, whether they are actual equipment problems or consumer errors, and product stability is how easily and quickly you solve those problems.
We are organizing all the troubleshooting DATA as follows.
