Today, I’d like to talk about the level of inkjet printing in China in 2025.

My previous company was an inkjet development manufacturer, and its main business line was developing inkjet software programs.

I targeted Chinese inkjet manufacturers, whose software development was still underdeveloped, and conducted sales campaigns there.

During a business trip to China in 2019, I visited four companies:

• An electronic board software development company with approximately 200 employees.
• An electronic board software development company with approximately 70 employees.
• A manufacturer that doesn’t have original electronic board software technology, but manufactures printers and pursues its own software development.
• A partner company that also has original electronic board software technology and manufactures its own printers.

 

We were in business, but due to COVID-19 and other reasons, the business we had been pursuing didn’t go well.

We’re continuing our business by supplying UV printers through our Chinese partner.

When we visited our Chinese partner five years ago, they didn’t have any special products other than the basic printers we had seen.

• A water-based solvent printer we had previously owned.
• Various types of large-format UV flatbed and large-format UV roll printers.
• Our first small-format UV printer (now Artjet).

2. Visit in November 2024 _China inkjet level in 2025

I met Nicky, the ARTJET representative, in 2012 and have maintained a close relationship with him ever since.
He’s currently the company’s Vice President, overseeing overseas sales, and also overseeing industrial equipment development in China.

Before my trip, I remembered the company I’d visited five years ago,

but when I met him that morning, he finally said, “Sales have quadrupled compared to five years ago.”

At first, I thought, “Oh, that sounds great!” But after visiting three factories, I was amazed by their scale.

Especially (not shown on YouTube), the industrial equipment manufacturing plant was unbelievable.

II. Report on industrial development equipment _China inkjet level in 2025  

1. Printer with 80 heads _China inkjet level in 2025  

I saw a textile printer manufacturing plant. On one side were rows of mass-produced products,

and on the other side were large, single-pass textile printers under production.

As I walked past that section, my jaw dropped. I thought they were building something.

There was a thick, massive frame the size of a building.

“What kind of equipment are you making?”

“It’s a single-pass textile printer.”

“How many print heads does it have?”

“80.”

“Where do you supply this equipment?”

“It’s a company in China that uses our products. We supply them there.”

 

2. That means operating 80 heads!! _China inkjet level in 2025   

When I was working at Inktech, I was in charge of the Label Single-Pass division, from development feasibility studies to early sales.

 

While watching the development process, I realized how challenging it was to operate a single-pass head.

• I first realized the challenge of handling the data transmission required to operate around ten KMi1800 heads in a single pass.
• Even the slightest sideways movement of the belt from the single pass resulted in banding,
• and even a slight difference in material transfer speed resulted in color distortion.

 

Because I knew all about the difficulties of single-pass printing and the complexities of single-pass data transmission,

even though it was a textile printer, its precision was lower than that of a label printer, it didn’t significantly affect image rendering.

Having already known the challenges of producing 80 heads in a single pass, I was immediately overwhelmed by China’s technological prowess.

 

 

III. Inkjet is just getting started _China inkjet level in 2025  

1. Textile Printer Ink Consumption _China inkjet level in 2025   

The main reason for our partner’s growth was the high ink consumption of textile printers.

While ink margins aren’t high, the above YouTube video claims that one mass-production machine consumes 500kgs of ink per month.

It seems the textile market is being pioneered by inkjet printers.

Until 2017, inkjet printers held a 1% market share in the textile market, but now they’re at around 5%, and with this growth, the future holds promise.

After textiles, the packaging market is also poised for rapid growth, as Chinese manufacturers continue to produce equipment.

Next, we have industrial inkjet printers, which provide customized production equipment for specific factories.

I understand that some companies are already replacing certain processes with inkjet printers.

 

2.Visit in September 2025 _China inkjet level in 2025   

They say they’re currently pursuing inkjet 3D printers.

The liquids used in 3D printing are highly viscous, and until now, there haven’t been heads capable of jetting high-viscosity liquids.

Major head manufacturers are releasing heads capable of jetting high-viscosity liquids.

Inkjet printing is expected to be adopted in the 3D market in the future, and this,

will likely overcome the productivity issues facing 3D printers.
