When ink enters the damper through the ink tube from the main ink bottle,

the ink flows through the print head to the captop,

and through the motor pump to the waste ink tank.

II. UV Printer Ink Supply Principle _UV printer ink supply problem pump motor operation principle

1. Two ways _UV printer ink supply problem pump motor operation principle

The print head cleaning methods of UV printers can be broadly classified into two types.

 

One is the method mainly used in large format UV printers.

  • It may vary depending on the printer size, but it is connected by a 5~7m ink tube from the main bottle to the auxiliary ink tank,
  • and the ink is supplied from the main bottle to the auxiliary ink tank using a relatively powerful motor pump.
  • When the auxiliary ink tank is full of ink, the motor pump next to the main bottle stops, and when the auxiliary ink tank runs out of ink again, the motor pump turns on and fills the ink again.
  • From the auxiliary ink tank to the print head nozzle, it is controlled by + air pressure, – air pressure, and convection pressure.
  • At this time, print head cleaning is done by applying + air pressure to the auxiliary ink tank (usually called purge pressure) to push out the ink,
  • and wiping the bottom of the head with a cloth, or wiping the ink with a wiper using the auto cleaning method.

 

The second is the method used for desktop printers, and is currently used for small UV printers (printing size of 600x900mm or less).

  • It is a control method that pulls ink from the main ink tank to the head with a motor pump through a relatively short ink line, and maintains the ink jetting state in the print head through the damper.
  • This method is a convection pressure method that flows ink from a high place to a low place,
    and a method that stably controls ink through the damper technology that has been verified through desktops for a long time.
  • However, the problem is that if ink load (pumping) is not done, ink is not supplied into the print head, and printing cannot proceed.
  • For this reason, printers that use dampers must have ink load (pumping),
  • and since it is so important, the Captop, Damper, and Motor pump related to ink supply are explained.

 

2. Inkload (pumping) principle in small UV printer _UV printer ink supply problem pump motor operation principle

  • The ink tube starting from the Main Ink container is connected to the Damper, and the Damper is inserted into each print head channel connection.
  • The Captop rises and closes to the bottom of the Print Head, creating a vacuum state to prevent air from entering.
  • In this state, the pump motor rotates and the cylinder presses the Peristaltic pump tube, applying physical force.
  • Due to this physical force, the ink contained in the Damper is collected in the Captop through the Print Head, and flows to the waste ink container through the Peristaltic tube.
  • Inkload (pump) is performed based on this principle, and when the bottom of the head is wiped with a wiper in this state, the print head is cleaned.

When the peristaltic pump tube (yellow tube) touches the self-rotating cylinder,

the cylinders that were rotating in place start to rotate as a whole, pressing the peristaltic pump tube (yellow tube),

and by pressing like this, the ink flows in one direction.

2. Problems that occurred with the motor pump _UV printer ink supply problem pump motor operation principle

 

If it is very clean and the motor is running well, but the cylinder does not turn,

  • the yellow tube may be completely compressed.
  • The three cylinders need to press down on the yellow tube to start turning,
  • but if the yellow tube is too compressed, there is no pressure itself, so the cylinder may not turn.

 

If the three cylinders are rotating but the ink load (pumping) is not working,

  • The yellow tube is compressed and the cylinders can be rotated by slightly pressing, but such a weak pressing is not enough to transport the ink, which may be a problem.
  • Or, the yellow tube inside the cap is slightly torn.

 

If you replace the yellow tube with a new one and it doesn’t turn,

  • The yellow tube is too tight and the three cylinders can’t turn.
  • If you open and close the lid slightly, it will start to turn.

If air enters the Captop lower tube or Damper connection area, ink loading (pumping) may not occur even if the pump motor operates properly.
