Ink supply issue and solution summary
Now, I’m organizing the problems and symptoms related to the UV Printer head.
Before dealing with the actual problems and solutions, there are too many misconceptions about the head, so I’ll explain the basics first.
1.Does the head have a lifespan? Is a head warranty available?
Today, I will explain how printer manufacturers respond when requesting a free head warranty.
I. Whether or not there is a free warranty for each accident _Head Free Warranty Request and Actual Response Case
1. Damage due to head crash _Head Free Warranty Request and Actual Response Case
It was a German consumer, and while printing on Dibond (aluminum bonding paper),
the aluminum on the cut surface protruded like a thread and scratched the bottom of the print head, damaging 8 heads.
The cost was over 30 million won.
The consumer said,
“Shouldn’t the anti-crash (a mechanical device that automatically stops printing when something hits it during printing) have stopped? It’s a defect in the product itself.”
However, our product manual states the following:
“Anticrash is only an auxiliary device, and there is no compensation for print heads due to crashes.”
Because the amount was so large,
First, the German dealer replaced 8 heads,
and after 6 months of negotiations regarding the amount, we concluded that the dealer:consumer:manufacturer = 1:1:1 would bear the cost of the heads.
Problems caused by the head scratching something sharp during printing or hitting something are not covered by the warranty.
2. Head nozzle clogged by LED lamp _Head Free Warranty Request and Actual Response Case
This is also not covered by the print head warranty.
The product manual states the following:
“When using tall materials, place materials of similar height in the adjacent space”
“When printing on glass or mirrors, print once and wipe the head.”
3. If ink deterioration is proven _Head Free Warranty Request and Actual Response Case
Even with the same ink, defects can occur depending on the production lot.
If the head is damaged due to this problem, head compensation is possible.
However, in order to receive head compensation, the consumer must prove the ink problem.
Looking at the overall process,
- If a dealer managing a consumer reports that ‘it seems to be an ink problem’,
- the equipment manufacturer requests the ink company to check the properties of the same lot and at the same time, puts the ink in the equipment and tests it.
- If the same problem occurs, you can receive compensation for the head through the equipment manufacturer due to the ink problem.
There are also cases where the equipment manufacturer puts the same lot of ink in the demo equipment and tests it, but the problem does not occur.
- You should not stop here,
- and you should receive ink from the ink tank in the consumer’s equipment, request a properties check, and ask again if there are any problems.
- Sometimes, when passing through hot regions during delivery, the ink deteriorates and causes problems.
4. Diagonal fired and nozzle clogging _Head Free Warranty Request and Actual Response Case
If you use the head for a long time, the print quality will deteriorate, and
When you do a Nozzle Test, the nozzle will be clogged as shown in the picture below, or even if ink comes out, it will be fired diagonally instead of straight.
In this case, the head will not be compensated for free.

Most head manufacturers are major Japanese companies.
When requesting compensation for print heads,
- we request the sending of the problematic heads,
- and after about 1~2 months, or as long as 3 months,
- with a detailed report, the decision is almost 99% that it is not possible.
I sent a head that was complained about by a consumer to Konica and requested compensation,
but I received the following report and was told that the head was not covered by the free warranty due to scratches.

Until 2010, they even provided head compensation with conditions.
“Print heads are covered by a 1-year warranty. However, consumer negligence is excluded.”
The conditions were not easy to keep.
- You must print and store the nozzle pattern every day.
- You must use 20 liters of head cleaning solution per month (not us).
- You must prove that there was no operator error.
Currently, heads are sold on the premise that they are consumables.

In 2007, I was in charge of overseas sales, and sometimes I interpreted engineer conversations, so I was also handling simple AS.
It was a Turkish engineer, and a report of a problem was received after work hours, and since there was no engineer, I was responding.
“Change to the recently modified board and try again.”
“I think there was an accident. I changed the board and turned on the power, and smoke came out of the board.”
“Check the nozzle first and let me know if it’s okay.”
“It’s not coming out at all,,,”
“How many? What color?”
“All 6 heads,,,”
Manager spoke for me , “The board specs have changed, and how can a CS person know that this kind of conflict will occur?”, but
I received 6 heads and sent them to my friend only after writing a statement.
The Turkish engineer was also dealing with China, so he was half-hearted about ‘Should I send the heads?’
That friend quit the company when he got married, and I heard that he was doing business, but I haven’t been able to contact him since.
10 years later, at a European exhibition, I heard that there was a person who waited for over an hour to consult with me directly, not with another salesperson,
and when I finished the other consultation, it was that guy.
He had become the president of a large business that sold several tons of ink per month with about 20 employees.
