Today, I will explain the symptoms that occur when the bidirectional offset is completely wrong during bidirectional printing.

 

I. 증상 _When Bidirectional offset is completely off

Looking at the photo below, you can see banding along the Y-axis.

From the photo alone,

• is this happening because a specific color is missing?
• Is the white nozzle missing, causing color to print over the white banding?
• Is this problem caused by a deviation in the mechanical movement along the Y-axis?

It’s not easy to immediately determine the cause of the problem.

The printing conditions used were as follows:

• Both head carriage speed and feed speed were set to Normal
• Printing direction: Double direction
• G mask: Quality mode
• Full-face printing, i.e., color printing on white

Our customers have been using large UV printers for over 10 years and have a high level of understanding of UV printers.

“Sir, if it prints fine in one direction but not in bidirectional printing, it could be because the bidirectional printing isn’t working. What is the bidirectional print offset Value?”

“We have it set to 15. That’s the correct value. When I asked you before, the letters weren’t coming out clearly, so I adjusted the value myself based on your advice.”

“Back then, You said the material wasn’t flat enough, so it needed to be increase the standoff (the distance between the material and the head). This is the Offset value you adjusted to match that height.”

“Still, it’s still coming out like a line along the Y-axis. I don’t think changing the condition value along the X-axis will fix it. Did you misunderstand the X and Y axes in the problematic photo? I’ll send you another photo.”

“I’ve checked the X and Y axes in the photo you sent, and I understand what you’re saying. Please try it as I suggested.”

“Understood.”

“Please change the Value from 15 to 10 and print it to see what happens.”

 

A little later, he called back.

“It’s coming out fine. How can this be?”

• Because the data printed from left to right and the data printed from right to left are completely offset in bi directions,
• Ink is land in very different locations, not just a little.
• If ink land in completely different locations at every Y-axis pass, banding will be visible at every pass,
• and it could be mistaken for a Y-axis issue, not an X-axis issue.

 

“Oh, the text looks a little off when I look at it through the magnifying glass. How do I adjust it?”

• Bidirectional adjustment allows you to change the Value to a whole number, such as 10 or 11.
• If 10 is roughly correct, try printing it with the two digits below it, 8 or 9.
• Also, print the two digits above it, 11 or 12, to check the print quality.
• Find the best value among 8, 9, 10, 11, or 12.
• Assuming 10 is the best value,
• the up and down arrow buttons to the right of the “1/2” text will be activated.
• You can fine-tune the value by 1/2 using the arrow buttons.
• For example, if the Value is 10, pressing the up arrow button once will change it to 10.5.
• Press the up arrow button again to change it from 10.5 to 11.
