ARTJET UV Printer Application 7 _ Ink Consumption Calculation
ARTJET UV Printer has been sold in Korea for 4 years, and we are organizing the printer problems we have encountered so far, their causes, and their solutions.
We have compiled 10 different print head problems and 17 ink supply problems, and you can find detailed information at the site below.
ARTJET UV Printer troubleshooting sum up
From last time, we are explaining not only UV printer problems and solutions, but also what products are produced with UV printers.
In the first session, we explained how to print high-value Braille using the ARTJET UV Printer. For more details, please refer to the site below.

In the second session, we explained how to align the images on the front and back when flipping the material over and printing a different image on the back after printing on the front. See below for details.

In the third session, we explained how to print a three-dimensional elephant rather than simply printing it in color.

In the fourth session, I explained how to implement colors that are not expressed in colors created with an ICC profile using the Sai rip [Color Adjustment] tab.

In the fifth session, I explained how to accurately match the print size using Sai rip.

In the sixth session, we talked about the acrylic bonding equipment that those who have UV printers and laser cutting equipment are looking for.
Hereuner is only Korean since only Korea is hot on this machine. ARTJET UV Printer Application 6 _아크릴 본딩 장비
Today, “How much ink is consumed in total for the printouts we produce?” and “How much does ink cost?” I will explain the Sai rip option where you can see .
I. Of course I thought you knew,,
There is a CEO who uses ARTJET well.
Take good care of his equipment, try different colors to find the one he want,
Recently, I visited with a potential customer, and while I was explaining various things, the topic of ink consumption came up.
He said.
“Oh, is there such a function?”
“Yes? I thought you knew, of course.”
I thought most people who use ARTJET would know this.
After meeting with the him, I thought, ‘most of people who use ARTJET probably don’t know!” That’s what I thought.
II. Simple logic first!!
1. How Ai files are printed through Rip SW
The print head inside the printer receives electronic signals and simply folds and unfolds the thin plate.
Under the force of the thin plate, the ink is fired and the ink isn’t ejected.
Through this process, the printer prints with colors similar to the AI file image.
“The print head moves according to electronic signals!!”
If there is a signal, move the thin plate, if there is no signal, stop.
Rip SW recognizes Illustrator’s Ai file by dividing it into different channels such as CMYK, CMYK Lc Lm White, and varnish.
When you look at the DATA that has gone through the rip software for each channel (there is a separate program), it just repeats whether there is a dot on a white page or not.
This data passes through the printer, and if there is a dot, the thin plate of the print head moves. If there is no dot, it stops.
That is, each dot DATA becomes one ink drop. If you add up all the dot DATA, you can calculate how many ink droplets fall in total.
2. Capacity of one drop of ink
” This head is a 5 pico head. ”
Yes, that’s right. 5 pico liter is 0.000000000005 liter and is a capacity unit.
Total number of ink drops x 0.000000000005 liter = ink consumption for that image
III. Go to ink consumption calculation option in Sai Rip
1. Only images for which ripping has been completed,
As I explained the logic now, total ink droplet calculation is possible only for images that have been ripped through Sar rip SW.
I’m telling you this because it’s a feature I don’t use often, and I was embarrassed when I loaded the image into the Rip software and the calculation didn’t work.
2. Image size and white and varnish options
Horizontal and vertical size

White and Varnish
White is printed all over the image, varnish is spot.

3. Ink estimation options

This is only available for images where ripping has been completed.
Click on the image and press the estimate button at the top.
IV. Setting up the ink options window
1. Ink estimation options window and detailed settings

The ink estimation options window will appear as shown above,
When you press the [Configuration] button at the bottom left where the arrow indicates, a window will pop up where you can enter the ink capacity and ink price.
By pressing the [Preferences] button on the bottom right, indicated by an arrow, you can set whether to display ink in pl or ml units.
For small images, the ink consumption is small, so the ink consumption may not be displayed when displayed in ml. In this case, you can set it to pl.
2. Ink capacity and price
Since this part is important, I will explain it again.
In the cartridge capacity, write down the capacity of the ink bottle you are currently receiving.
In the price per cartridge, write down the price of the ink you are currently receiving.
Some places sell ink in units of 1 liter, while others sell it in units of 1 kgs.
Since it is only displayed in liter units, in the case of Kgs, ink is heavier than water, so it would be approximately 950 ml.
In the case of white, it is heavier compared to the color, but I will just ignore it.

3. Ink consumption and ink cost for current image
When you press the [Estimate] button, ink consumption is calculated as follows.

The ink consumption displayed in the Rip software is 0.97ml and the total cost is w155.93.
But,
In the case of White and Varnish, it must be recalculated in conjunction with ARTJET SW.
V. Ink consumption and cost considering ARTJET SW
1. explanation
In the case of CMYK Lc Lm Color, it is printed the same as the file ripped by Rip software,
Since the amount of white and varnish ink dripping can be adjusted in ARTJET SW, it must be recalculated taking this into account.
The ARTJET UV Printer head configuration is as follows.
* C, M, Y, K, Lc, Lm, that is, there is one channel for each color.
* White is responsible for 6 channels.
* Varnish Also, 6 channels are responsible for varnish.
2. ARTJET Spot color SW
Since White and Varnish channel are 6 times more than color, if you print with Rip data set as is, the printout will be up to 600%.
However, when printing 100% white on all 6 channels, there is too much white, so ARTJET SW has a function to adjust the white density.
In the picture below, you can see that White has 6 channels,
There is a density (0~100%) adjustment window at the bottom of each screen.

3. Ink consumption and ink cost considering ARTJET SW
The density of White and Varnish was set to 50% for 6 channels compared to color.
In this case, the actual ink usage is 1.9ml and the cost is 303.12 won.

VI. One big variable that matters
In the case of ARTJET, if there are no major differences in color and varnish, good nozzle condition can be obtained only by cleaning.
However, like other UV printers, white requires inkload(pumping) and cleaning.
Since the ink consumption due to this is not small, cleaning + Inkload (pumping) must be taken into consideration in this data when making an estimate.
That’s it for today.
