Today, I will explain the cost and margin of printing cell phone cases, which are widely used with UV printers.
“How much do you make if you sell a cell phone case after UV printing?”
I. ‘Will it make money?’
1. Before purchasing equipment
When purchasing equipment, the first concern is ‘Will it be profitable?’, and the second is ‘When will I be able to recover the equipment investment cost?’.
I wonder about the material cost + printing cost of the item I want to proceed with, and I also find out about the price of the product I produce.
‘If I produce this much a month, I can cover office rent, operating expenses, and living expenses, although it’s not enough.’
After deciding on the main item, I start looking at other items that can be produced with a UV printer.
2. Items that can be produced with only a UV Printer
When I look at other products on the market, there are so many different ones.
I wondered, ‘Can I make this with just a UV Printer?’, and then I learned about UV DTF,
and then I wondered, ‘Should I buy a laser cutter?’
However, due to the initial cost burden,
‘Let’s start with items that can be produced with a UV Printer, and outsource the ones that need processing.’
That’s how I researched items that can be produced with just a UV Printer.
Printable items that can be implemented with color only
‘If the material to be printed is white, you can produce these products with color only! ‘
Items that can be printed if Color + White is required
‘If the material to be printed is transparent or contains a color other than white, White is absolutely necessary!’
Color + White + Varnish
‘If I develop items well, I might be able to create something specialized!‘
3. Even if it’s just a UV printer,
If I were to give my personal opinion after selling UV Printers for 20 years, Color + White is a must, and if I were you, I would definitely include Varnish.
Color is better in color expression with CMYK Lc Lm 6 colors than CMYK 4 colors, and Lc Lm is especially effective in implementing light skin tones.
If Lc Lm is absent, light skin tones have more black dots mixed in, making it look rough when implementing colors.
The minimum requirement for White is 2 times the color, and the more the better.
The purpose of White is to mask the background color when printing color on black or red materials.
If the background color is black, white should be printed at least 400% or 600% to completely cover the black with white.
If it is 2 times the color, white alone should be printed at least 2 or 3 times, which increases the printing time.
The same goes for printing on transparent materials. If the color is dark, white does not completely cover the color when viewed from the back.
Now that UV printers are common, Varnish is essential for developing special items.
Specialized items and Braille, as shown in the photo below, guarantee high profits.
II. Cell phone case delivery cost and margin
Since the ink cost is not a big part, please use the image as a reference only.
This is the time to produce one phone case, and if you produce several, the work time will be significantly reduced.
1. Cell phone case production cost
A. Labor cost
Calculate labor cost per second based on hourly wage of 10,000 won
158 seconds for one print, labor cost is 439 won
B. Ink Cost
When you enter the ink value into the lip software, the ink consumption and ink cost are automatically calculated. .
Ink consumption is 0.03ml, ink cost is 2.89 won.
C. Cell phone case unit price
When purchasing in bulk, one jelly case costs 500 won
D. Total Cost
941.89 won = Labor cost (439 won) + Ink cost (2.89 won) + Case (500 won)
Labor cost is the time to print one image,
and when printing multiple images at once, if divided by the production time per phone case, the labor cost can be reduced by more than 50%.
2. Added value
If delivered directly to consumers, the selling price per phone case is 9,000 won, and the margin is approximately 8,000 won.
If 20 are delivered to retailers at the same time, the price per phone case is 3,500 won, and if 20 are produced, the margin is approximately 50,000 won.
If 20 are produced at the same time, the production time per phone case is reduced, and labor costs can be reduced by more than 50%.
III. A few notes
One,
I found out the cost with a cell phone, but you can calculate the cost of other products using the same principle.
Two,
Recently released cell phones are not easy to UV print due to the height of the camera.
It is risky to choose a cell phone case as the main item.
Three,
You should also include the ink consumed for cleaning, or maintenance, in the cost for the ink used during printing.
Fourth,
If you print on a jelly case with Rigid UV Ink and then bend the case, the printed ink on the case may crack, so you should use flexible UV ink, and for a hard case, you should use rigid UV ink that is resistant to scratches.
However, since it is not easy to purchase one flexible UV ink printer and one rigid UV ink printer,
there will be no major problems when printing if you change only the White UV Ink from flexible to rigid or vice versa depending on the case.
